Bison health event in Brookings a success
July 12, 2024 (Brookings, SD) – South Dakota State University’s Department of Animal Science, Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, and the National Bison Association would like to highlight and thank Visit Brookings and many others for their help in organizing a successful conference hosted on campus.
The second International Bison Health Symposium was hosted in Brookings on June 30-July 2 and was a huge success. Producers, veterinarians, tribal leaders, government officials, researchers and zoo managers from all over the United States and Canada gathered to present research and discuss discoveries in bison health from the past ten years. Graduate students and researchers also from universities in the United States and Canada presented posters highlighting their research as well.
This symposium could not have been accomplished without the support from the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences, the managers and staff of both the University Student Union and Club 71, and the Center of Excellence of Bison Studies.
The Center of Excellence of Bison Studies is a tripartite organization housed by South Dakota State University alongside the National Bison Association and the National Buffalo Foundation that focuses on progressing the industry through support of our nation’s national mammal. This Center is the only one of its kind in the United States.
When determining where to host this event, Visit Brookings, the Brookings Chamber of Commerce, and SDSU made the strongest case to bring this exclusive event to South Dakota.
The responsibility of organizing was shared with Visit Brookings when they provided various materials for the conference and wonderful recommendations to get attendees to explore Brookings for various meals and activities. People across North America now know what the people at South Dakota State also know: Brookings is a beautiful town filled with wonderful places and people.
